Spanish Nationalism

I am from Spain, other culture, so probably mi opinion may be very different.

The first and most important difference is that we, the Spanish, are not as nationalistic as the Canadian. In fact we do not have the feeling of being Spanish as you feel being Canadian.

Even in Spain there are two communities that want to be independent. They are Cataluña y El País Vasco. Nearly the half of the components of La Roja, our great soccer selection, are from these places. Even they have said that the do not feel Spanish, they feel catalanes (the denomination of people from Cataluña).

In Spain, it is impossible to see Spanish flags hanging in windows. It is a madness think that our anthem can be played everyday at school. In the recent past and actually nowadays, people who feel a lot being Spanish are not well looked upon from the majority of the society.

The anthem also has a political thinking. The flags are only used by people with extreme ideology. It is so strange in Spain to listen the national anthem. It is only can be heard in important  national events or a selection soccer match. This way, feeling the Spanish colours is only well looked upon in sports.

Once I have explained our huge differences, mi opinion is that the national Canadian anthem should not be played everyday when school start. Why I think so? Because the nationalism can persuaded with feelings instead of reasons. It has still been a method to moved lots of people who do not think the necessary, but they think they have to do it because they are good patriots, in this case,  Canadian. Leaders and politics have used this method many times and if it is possible to avoid, we will try. And in my opinion, delete the listening everyday could be one of the best goals.

If the nationalism as a feeling did not exist, we would be able to avoid racism, genocide and even, wars.
