Discrimination at the workplace

Discrimination involves the unfair treatment of individuals on the basis of race, colour, ethnic, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, or physical handicap.

Harassment includes verbal abuse, threats, unwelcome invitations, requests, or statements about a person’s body, clothing, race, as well as leering or similar gestures.

Ways to avoid discrimination
-     Access: it involves a variety of issues such as whether the workplace has elevators or ramps or someone who is blind can bring a dog to work.
-  Affirmative action or employment equity: it is the process of improving employment practices so they are fair to people who may have been discriminated in the past.

**Employers and employees must report injuries to the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSID)**
