Type of media
Advantages
Disadvantages

Newspapers
- It provides advertisers with a timely and flexible medium.
- Can select target market: local, regional, national…
- Respond quickly to local changes
- Its life is quite short since papers are normally discarded a day or two more.

Magazines
- Advertisers can focus on target market.
- People keep magazines for a longer period than newspapers.
- Better quality on visual effects.
- Less flexibility

Radio
- Relatively inexpensive.
- Easy to reach a target market (stations)
- Reach people in any situations.
- Many listeners use the radio as a background.
- People used to remember better what they see.


TV
- Only medium that provides sight, sound, motion and colour.
- TV allows to select demography markets (channels).
- TV can use a wide range of effects to attract the attention.
- High cost of producing commercial.
- Only large corporations can afford it.
Internet
(Banner ads, spam, inviting home pages)
- Able to target people when they have the impulse to buy at home.
- People can access reviews and testimonials about products.
- Spam
Direct Mail
(Pamphlets, leaflets, brochures, flyers)
- It can be selective (zone).
- It gives the advertisers a way to distribute samples of their products to potential customers.
- Expensive
- Junk mail
- Sometimes it is thrown out without being read.
Outdoor Advertisement
(Billboards, bus-shelter ads, ads on public transit, trucks)
- Appropriate for short messages.
- Seen by a large number of consumers.
- Tend to be seen by people on the move.
- Impossible to target their market.
