7 types of poems

Couplets

Two lines with rhyme AA.

Limerick

Five lines with rhyme AABBA. They used to be funny.

Haiku

3 lines:
-         First line: 5 syllables
-         Second line: 7 syllables
-         Third line: 5 syllables

Cinquain

5 lines that follow this sequence:
-         One word about a vague or general idea about the topic
-         Two adjectives that describe the topic
-         Three “-ing” action verbs that fit the topic.
-         Four-word phrase that inspires a feeling about the topic
-         Five: A very specific term. You can use the topic.

Acrostic

Steps:
-         Choose a topic
-         Write the word downwards
-         Use each letter to write a word or phrase related to the topic.

Free verse

No rules at all.

Rhymed


Poems have some sort of rhyming scheme.
