Minerals

General information:


-          They are micronutrients.
-          They help the body to get energy from macronutrients and to make bones, proteins and blood.
-          They are inorganic substances.

There are three main types of minerals:

-          Calcium: found in daily products, it is part of the structure of bones and teeth.
-          Iron: found in meats and dark vegetables, plays a role in carrying oxygen to body tissue.
-          Electrolytes: carry an electric charge when dissolved in the body, they help to maintain blood pressure and conduct nerves.
o   Sodium, chloride and potassium: sodium and chloride come from salt and potassium from fruits and vegetables.
