The
Perks of Deflowering a Wallflower
The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a film based on the life of a shy and unpopular teenager who writes letters to someone with no name about his experiences, friends, family problems, first dates, party, drugs and sex. The main character, Charlie, has to deal with his first love, Sam, the suicide of his best and unique friend and more. Meanwhile he is looking for a group of friends in his first year of high school.
The
first day of high school is hard for everyone: new school, new people, new
teachers… But it can be harder if you do not know anyone and the only friend
that you make in your first day is your English teacher. This is what happens
to Charlie. The film starts during the first day of high school. Charlie is a
grade nine student with no friends. Little by little Charlie starts to hang out
with two siblings from grade twelve, Patrick and Sam, although Charlie is grade
nine.
The
actors did a really good job, specially Logan Lerman, representing Charlie, and
Emma Watson, representing Sam. I am glad that Emma Watson decided to continue
with his career and she is able to play more characters than Hermione Granger,
in Harry Potter.
When
I started watching this film I did not think it was going to be a great film. I
thought, Oh, no! Just another boring film about teenagers life. But I
soon realized the film was going to be different. The film is based on a book
written by Stephen Chbosky who is also the director and the screenwriter. In
his 3x1 job, Stephen Chbosky made an awesome job and he did achieve the difficult task of making a film from a book.
Moreover, if the book is not about just actions, but based on
emotions. There is only one thing that I do not like, how a grade nine boy
meets grade twelve students. I do not get that, it is the only poser I could
say.
The
Perks of Being a Wallflower wants to be targeted for teenager and young adults
and it gets it. Even some adults could like it. If they want to compare their
time at the high school with today’s. The film is PG-13. I agree with the MPAA
rating. I do not think people under thirteen can understand the movie. It is simple: they have not lived these
experiences.
This film
shows how raw the life of a teenager can be, how much the past can upset a
person's personality, their insecurities and the feeling of loneliness.
